The Trendiest Corner In St. Louis

The trendiest corner in St. Louis happens to be City Boutique. It’s located in the heart of a neighborhood called The Grove. A part of the city that offers a small town vibe with a host of small business owners lining the street. Since 2010, owner Sheryl Meyers has kept St. Louis in the loop with her keen eye for fashion.

I must admit my timing is off and trying to stay in the loop during a pandemic is challenging. Covid-19 cases are increasing and more guidelines have been released as of yesterday so take the necessary precautions by wearing your mask. Thank goodness most boutiques offer online ordering/shipping. You have the following options as well: online ordering/curbside pickup and in-store shopping. The boutiques that I’ve come across online have coronavirus guidelines on their websites. If you’re unsure about anything just give them a call. Now that I’ve loaded you with all the information needed, let’s shop!

City Boutique

City Boutique is a black-owned store that offers a wide selection of apparel and accessories for the fashion savvy woman. They offer regular and plus sizes. The plus size collection is called Curve Junkie and it’s located right next door. In addition to the latest fashion trends, City Boutique carries classy heels, wedges, sandals, and boots to complete your look.

I decided to order online but I’m looking forward to making an in-store purchase in the near future. My look consists of the Sam Sam Denim Romper with puffed shoulders and a little bling inside the buttons. What I love about this denim was the stretch. In my opinion, the romper was true to my size large. The temptation to fill up my cart was hard to resist so I added the Face Me Studded Top to my order. At the time of writing this post, I didn’t have a picture of me wearing the top but I will post one later this week on my Instagram.

I’m going to wear my trendy romper in my backyard and enjoy some sunshine. Here’s to 2021! Until next time, stay healthy.

2020 The Year Of The Small Business Owner

It’s 2020 the year of the small business owner. The pandemic has caused many owners to close their doors permanently. I can’t imagine turning your dreams into a reality only to lose everything in a span of 3 months. I’ve decided to showcase and make a conscientious effort to support my hometown boutiques. Join me in celebrating these remarkable business owners.

They’ve gone out of the way to welcome back their customer base as well as attract new customers. There are three options to shopping during the Covid-19: Shop online and have your items shipped, shop online and pick up items curbside, and or visit the store; especially if you’ve been on lock-down for months. Also, most boutiques have safety guidelines, restrictions, and store hours pertaining to the coronavirus listed on their website.

A Personal Shopping Experience

What do you get when you patronize small businesses? You encounter a personal shopping experience. The pros are customer familiarity, quick resolve of any issues that may occur, and handwritten thank-you notes from the owner. I can tell you personally that the owner of Epiphany Boutique carved out time to express her gratitude for choosing her store.

Epiphany Boutique offers a variety of styles from glamorous cocktail dresses, casual wear, and trendsetting urban wear in regular/plus sizes. You can’t ignore the irresistible accessories, shoes, and swimwear! That’s what I call one-stop shopping. My order was placed online. I chose the the Imani T-Shirt and the Pria Denim Shorts. This fashion hits the right spot! I can’t wait to visit the boutique and check out the heels.

For my heel selection, I chose an open-toe black strappy heel. The Courtnee Sandal faux suede four inch stiletto. This is my second pair of this style because they’re comfortable and affordable. My Birthday Wish

This year has been so heavy, dealing with covid-19, personal loss, and the ongoing fight for racial justice. My birthday wish for today is equality for African Americans, including a dialogue that is enriched with solutions and not just empty rhetoric.

I’m happy to get back to sharing my love for writing, my fashion looks, and stilettos. The last six posts focused on my Pop of Color Closet Challenge. I decided to challenge myself and others not to take the easy way out by purchasing a pair of black stilettos. Instead, adding a little color to their lives. For me personally, my eye was always drawn to them or maybe the majority of the shoes shown were black. Hmm…I need to come up with some stats. Okay ladies, the wait is over. Let’s add some black heels to our closets!

Closet Addition-Black Stilettos

For your newest closet addition, black stilettos by Jessica Simpson. The style name is Zelta They are strappy, snake print, 3 3/4 heels. You can wear them with jeans, dress shorts, and of course an evening dress. Strappy heels never go out of style. My Birthday Look

The look that I’ve paired with these awesome heels is a zebra faux wrap skirt with a black bodysuit The lime green cardigan is from eBay for an added pop of color. My birthday look has “grown woman” written all over it! I’ve kept this post short and sweet, as I get back into the groove of things. I hope you got some ideas for your next outfit! The Final Edition-Pop of Color Closet Challenge

This is the final edition of my pop of color closet challenge. It was fun adding vibrant hues and sharing them along the way. I can’t explain how excited I get over my shoes! Speaking of excitement, this singer is everything to me. She’s therapeutic in a sense. When I need to lose a few pounds, clean the house, or just want a pick me up; I feel my ears with the sound of Beyonce.

Rocking In Her Stilettos

She’s been rocking in her stilettos for some time now and doing it like no other. Beyonce Giselle Knowles-Carter was born in Houston, Texas on September 4th, 1981. It may sound cliche but a star was born. She arrived on the musical scene in a girl group, Destiny’s Child in 1990 managed by her father Matthew Knowles. They went on to earn platinum success by dominating R&B and Pop charts with hits like No No No. Later on, each member would take a break from the group to pursue solo acts.

Her first solo act was on the soundtrack of the Austin Power movie, titled Work It Out. Mrs. Carter followed up with her solo album, Dangerously In Love in 2003. She went on to sell millions of copies and has won 23 Grammy Awards combined! It’s speculated that around this time she was dating her now husband Jay-Z. Fast Forward to 2008, she married her best friend. The talented couple now have 3 beautiful children.

On top of having a full musical career, Beyonce has made a name for herself in the fashion industry as well. Her Ivy Park collection is the most sought after pieces of clothing. Anything she touches turns to gold. I can’t wait to see what more Beyonce has in store for her fans.

A Summertime Pop of Color For You

In the meantime, I have a summertime pop of color for you that won’t disappoint! Calling all shoe lovers! This is the final selection. An open-toe sandal, Jessica Simpson Jordiya. Cobalt blue strap with multi snake print. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing these are sold out at Designer Shoe Warehouse. Orange As The New Neutral

I can’t wait to show you how to wear orange as the new neutral! It’s my number five pick for my Pop of Color Closet Challenge. This color represents boldness and beauty, coinciding with a well-known actress that I’m honoring in this post.

First, I hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy and are doing everything in your power to prevent the spread of coronavirus. I’m sending a big hug and thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. The police officers, grocery workers, and people that have no choice that are serving their communities. Please be safe and know you’re in my thoughts as well. Remain strong and in the meantime, consider me as a friendly distraction.

Booked And Busy

She’s a friend in many of our heads and has remained booked and busy for over 30 years. In an industry that has a reputation for sidelining mature actresses, this is a monumental accomplishment. I want to be her when I grow up! Angela Bassett was born in New York City, NY. The actress has portrayed some of the most iconic women of our time: Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott King, and Betty Shabazz to name a few. The list is so extensive that I can’t pick a favorite. She’s good in every role. Ms. Bassett finessed her acting chops by receiving a master of fine arts degree from Yale University School of Drama. If that wasn’t enough, she recently received a Doctorate from Yale. Stella got her groove and then some.

Her personal life is short from being a stellar performance as well. Married to fellow actor Courtney B. Vance since 1997 and their twins who were born in 2006. Their commitment to one another is the true definition of black love.

Angela Bassett does not play when she’s on the red carpet! She slays and inspires older and younger women to dress in confidence, owning who they are. Her toned physique is fashion designer’s dream. I must admit that I’ve been trying to attain arms like hers for years. Instead, guess I’ll just keep showing off my legs in these stilettos.

The Right Choice-Orange

I’ve made the right choice with my rust orange stilettos as my go-to neutral heel. Check out my YouTube channel for all my stiletto purchases: Lisa Jefferson. These Courtnee Sandals paired with a wrap skirt and a bodysuit have me feeling a little special. I’m staying home and so should you. Get out of those pajamas and throw on some music and heels. You Deserve A Life Full Of Color

You deserve a life full of color so join my Pop of Color Closet Challenge! We’re off and running with my fourth choice. It’s a ray of sunshine much like the special lady I’ve chosen to honor in this post. Growing up, I emulated this mesmerizing entertainer every time she appeared on the screen. Since my admiration was at an all-time high, I unsuccessfully tried to mimic her dance moves from the Pleasure Principle video. The chair trick was a complete disaster. My obsession with Janet didn’t stop there. I also attempted to duplicate her chic bang hairstyle. No matter what, I still didn’t look like Janet. You can’t blame a girl for trying.

An Iconic Life Full Of Color

The youngest of nine children born to Joe and Katharine Jackson has led an iconic life full of color. I wouldn’t call her a wallflower by any means. Janet Jackson’s strong desire to succeed and make a name for herself catapulted her to icon status. Born in Gary, Indiana into a family dynasty of talented singers and musicians. Janet managed to find her own identity, as a result she became a record-breaking superstar.

The singer, dancer, actress, and songwriter holds the record for the most American Music Awards (AMA) nominations (12) for her Control album. Her fourth album, Rhythm Nation 1814 hit number one on the Billboard 200 chart and number one on the Top R&B / Hip Hop Album Chart. This was the largest selling album of 1990. Ms. Jackson also made history as receiving the highest paid recording contract because of it’s significance she’s listed in the Guinness World Records. The list of accolades is extensive. Janet went on to win along with her famous sibling Michael best music video for Scream in 1996. In addition, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.

Janet’s fashion style has evolved to eclectic looks, ranging from sexy, edgy, and classy. This socially conscious entertainer is a fashion icon with the ability to pull off any look effortlessly. More importantly, the look she wears well is motherhood. I’m sure her life is even more colorful with the birth of her son in 2017. Ms. Jackson is everything and will forever be a legend in my eyes. Speaking of everything, I have a pair of stilettos to show off!

It’s Colorful, Sweet, And Spectacular

My 4th choice is colorful, sweet, and spectacular. Olivia Jaymes sandal I purchased a faux-suede stiletto with a four inch heel. It’s a subtle yellow that can be paired with just about any color. In keeping with my last two posts, I have selected color number three! If you haven’t started yet, join my pop of color closet challenge. The beginning of this challenge was difficult to not purchase a black stiletto. There are so many beautiful black heels! On the other hand, I’m loving the colorful additions to my closet. Don’t hesitate to splurge once in awhile , especially if it makes you happy. Besides, sharing my latest splurges; I have a bit of history to share as well.

A Colorful Life Indeed

Zelda Wynn Valdes led a colorful indeed. She was born in Charlesburg, Pennsylvania 1905, the pioneer of accentuating curves on women through her exquisite fashion designs. Zelda committed to showing the world that beauty came in all shapes and sizes. As a result, she was the most sought after designer in Hollywood.

Blessed with the gift of creativity and visualization, Valdes could create a personalized look and fit without ever measuring her clients. The popularity of her designs increased Zelda’s clientele. She maintained longtime professional relationships with clients like Eartha Kitt, Dorothy Dandridge, Mae West, and Ella Fitzgerald.

As word continued to spread about Valdes, she was contacted by Playboy’s Hugh Hefner to design the original Playboy Bunny costume. Forever marking her place in history as a trailblazer in the fashion and costume industry.

In 1948, Zelda became the first black designer to open a boutique Chez Zelda on Broadway in New York City, NY. The following year she was selected as President of the NY Chapter of the National Association of Fashion and Accessory Designers She would pick up her needle and thread once again, for what would be the tale end of her fashion career at the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Valdes challenged the norms of the ideal costume. Instead, she created beautiful costumes that highlighted body characteristics of each individual dancer until her death in 2001.

A Pop Of Color Closet Challenge-Join In

Ladies, this is my 2nd installment of adding a pop of color closet challenge! This choice is perfect for Valentine’s Day. I hope y’all have started or at least thought about which vivid colors to add for the spring and summer season.

In honor of Black History month, I want to pay homage to amazing women from the past and present who’ve led colorful lives. This special lady has inspired and opened many doors for women in the entertainment industry; her stage name ‘Lola Falana.” She is the epitome of a strong black woman, who overcame her struggles through persistence, passion, and talent.

Born To Live A Colorful Life

Loletha Elaine Falana was born to live a colorful life. She was a triple threat, an actress, singer, and dancer raised in Philadelphia, PA. In her twenties, Lola was hailed as the ‘Queen of Vegas.” Nominated for a Tony Award and the recipient of the 1975 Theater World Award. Also, as a model she is a fashion icon in her own right.

My Pop OF Color #2

I would love to go back in time and take a look inside Lola’s closet. Wishful thinking on my part. Instead, let’s take a look at my #2 pop of color. Love is in the air and right around the corner, so I’ve found the richest red stilettos. Designed with a mesh overlay and a faux-suede ankle strap/heel. They are definitely showstoppers! A New Year Full Of Color Closet Challenge

Happy New Year! Let me introduce you to a new year full of color. I’m looking forward to making changes and challenging myself creatively this year. I firmly believe in the saying “keep at it because something will stick.” Reflecting back on last year, I realized what didn’t work and some particular things that was draining my spirit. Hopefully, you can identify and make changes as well. This year I’m focusing on the energy I send out and receive. The signs are there when someone or something is not in your best interest. It’s like a tap on the shoulder alerting you to make a change. Also, I came to the conclusion that I owned more black stilettos than any other color. I figured, why not issue a closet challenge? I challenge you to make subtle changes. You’ll know if the change is right by the way it makes you feel. I might add, colorful I hope.

My New Year full of colorful vibes, I don’t want to contain them so I’ll happily share. I found a pair of colorful purple transparent stilettos. It’s a four inch heel and it’s guaranteed to make any outfit pop. My choice was a grey dress so that the shoes would stand out effortlessly. These shoes will compliment any pink/fuschia or yellow clothing. For a great contrasting look, pair these heels with blue jeans, white,and grey clothing. This holiday season dress effortlessly by adopting my fashion goals for the winter. Two of those goals being warmth and comfort. On that effortless list would include: pants of any kind, sweaters, and boots. If you read my last post, I encouraged you to mix and match your glam and casual pieces for a more practical look.

The End Of The Year Pizzazz

How ready are you for the end of the year pizzazz parties? Well, you definitely have to evaluate New Year’s Eve parties on an individual basis. If you’re attending a small gathering at someone’s home, then your options are endless and less stressful for an outfit.

My Effortless Style

I’d rather not force my effortless style on you, instead encourage you to find what works best for you. With that being said, use this look as an example or guide. For this post I’m wearing a Vera Wang sequin sweater, at this time of writing it has sold out. I’ve provided an alternative in the non-affiliated link above. The pants have a jacquard pattern, which gives it a festive look. I completed this look with the over-the-knee boot from my last post. If you happen to have the same taste, then by all means go for it!
