Moms…The Forgotten One
I didn’t expect to see a reflection of myself on a recent episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Like many moms we tend to put ourselves last and adorn that “wonder woman” ideology. The episode contained actress Kim Fields, married mom of two beautiful children. There was a light bulb moment when she realized that subconsciously she had isolated herself. No time for self indulgences or developing rich and meaningful friendships. Like many of us it’s all about our kids, household, husbands/boyfriends, and work. I saw myself and cried, go figure from watching one of my favorite guilty pleasures. The ironic part of watching this show is there’s so much backstabbing and gossip among the women, one would think you’d be better off remaining isolated. You only live once and I think it’s a godsend to have one or two friends that can be that rock in your life.
It’s Never Too Late
Like Kim, I have what I’m passionate about which is my writing. It’s not living a full life to not have friends and that girl time. You have to be able to bash your husbands/boyfriends, playfully that is, and talk about stilettos, recipes, and just to be in good company and good spirits. I’d say it replenishes the soul for moms and women in general to support one another. At any age it’s fun to shake things up. I’ve always said that Oprah is blessed beyond the wealth, reason being Gayle her best friend…priceless.
Some things come to us in the strangest ways to move you out of your comfort zone. I can’t wait for the next episode. What other revelations will I stumble upon?
